This informational guide helps you prepare an enquiry. The accepted quotation defines the work.
Collect the instructions that apply to your property
Ask the relevant property contact for the handover instructions you need to work against. Record the proposed inspection or key-return deadline and identify who will provide access. Do not assume another landlord's checklist or an online example sets the requirements for your tenancy.
Separate cleaning observations from damage, missing items and repairs. If a requirement is unclear, ask the responsible parties to resolve it before commissioning extra work. A cleaning quotation is not a legal interpretation of the tenancy or a promise that a third party will accept the handover.
Create a departure task list
- Kitchen: list requested counters, sink, cupboard surfaces and appliance interiors; agree what remains in place.
- Bathrooms: specify fixtures, glass and accessible surfaces; record damaged grout, sealant or fittings separately.
- Rooms and storage: identify floors, doors, accessible shelves, wardrobes and areas previously blocked by belongings.
- Glass and outdoor areas: state requested sides, tracks and accessible balcony or terrace areas, subject to access review.
- Remaining furnishings: identify carpets, rugs, mattresses and seating individually if they are part of the request.
Plan belongings, other works and access
Explain what will remain when cleaning starts. Boxes, abandoned furniture and construction debris are different from ordinary cleaning tasks; collection or disposal must not be assumed. Confirm who removes belongings and who is responsible for any large-item movement.
Coordinate the requested clean with repairs, painting and the moving schedule. If another trade returns afterwards, ask how that changes the plan rather than assuming a further clean is included. Leave enough flexibility to review the agreed work; no standard duration is promised for every property.
Review completion against the agreed scope
Walk through the accessible areas with the accepted task list. Note completed work, exceptions and items needing clarification. Where appropriate and permitted, factual condition photographs can help your own record; avoid recording personal information or people without permission.
Raise questions with the relevant contact while distinguishing a cleaning issue from an unfinished repair or disagreement about tenancy requirements. A clean does not establish defect repair, inspection approval or deposit entitlement. Keep those decisions with the responsible parties.

Questions Before You Arrange the Work
Does move-out cleaning guarantee my deposit will be returned?
No. Cleaning does not determine deposit entitlement or a third party's acceptance of a handover. Confirm property-specific requirements with the responsible parties.
Is removing abandoned furniture included?
Do not assume collection, disposal or heavy-item movement is included. Identify remaining items and agree responsibilities separately.
How is this different from a move-in checklist?
A move-out checklist supports departure and agreed handover requirements. A move-in checklist focuses on occupation, deliveries and unpacking.
